Minha Toni Morrison

Trecho da página 158 de "God Help the Child"

They will blow it, she thought. Each will cling to a sad little story of hurt and sorrow - some long-ago trouble and pain life dumped on their pure and innocent selves. And each one will rewrite that story forever, knowing the plot, guessing the theme, inventing its meaning and dismissing its origin. What waste. She knew from personal experience how hard loving was, how selfish and how easily sundered. Witholding sex or relying on it, ignoring children or devouring them, rerouting true feelings or locking them out. Youth being the excuse for that fortune-cookie love - until it wasn't, until it became pure adult stupidity.

A maior.

God Help the Child

Décimo primeiro livro dela. Minha autora, prêmio Nobel de literatura. É pra ler direto, num só fôlego. Melhor coisa dos últimos tempos. Na página 8:

I'm scared. Something bad is happening to me. I feel like I'm melting away. I can't explain it to you but I do know when it started. It began after he said, "You not the woman I want."

"Neither am I."

Toni Morrison

"Cee remembered the relief and the pride they all took in having their own garden and their own laying hens. The Moneys had enough of it to feel at home in this place where neighbors could finally offer friendship instead of pity."

"Whose house is this?
Whose night keeps out the light
In here?
Say, who owns this house?
It´s not mine.
I dreamed another, sweeter, brighter
With a view of lakes crossed in painted boats;
Of fields wide as arms open for me.
This house is strange.
Its shadows lie.
Say, tell me, why does its lock fit my key?"

E a mensagem?

The bluest eye

"What is clear now is that of all of that hope, fear, lust, love, and grief, nothing remains but Pecola and the unyielding earth. Cholly Breedlove is dead; our innocence too. The seed shriveled and died; her baby too.

There is really nothing more to say - except why. But since why is difficult to handle, one must take refuge in how."

Nem vou comentar...ai ai ai ai.

Toni Morrison e "Love"

"In unlit places without streetlamps or yelping neon, night is profound and often comes as ease. Relief from looking out for and away from. Thieves need the night in order to be furtive, but can´t enjoy it. Mothers wait for it yet are braced all through their sleeping. The main ingredient offered by the night is escape from watching and watchers. Like stars free to make their own history and not care about another one; or like diamons unburdened, released into handsome rock".

A mercy

"Night comes and I steal a candle. I carry an ember in a pot to light it. To see more of you. When it is lit I shield the flame with my hand. I watch you sleeping. I watch too long. Am careless. The flame burns my palm. I think if you wake and see me seeing you I will die. I run away not knowing then you are seeing me seeing you. And when at last our eyes hit I am not dead. For the first time I am live."

Lindo.

"Everything I see or do, the weather and the water, buildings...everything actual is an advantage when I am writing. It is like a menu, or a giant tool box, and I can pick and choose what I want. When I am not writing, or more important, when I have nothing on my mind for a book, then I see chaos, confusion, disorder."

Assim:

Toni Morrison

E a Toni Morrison fala coisas lindas....., assim:

"There are all sorts of ways people try to stay connected, try not to live in hate. Religion may be one of them, but for me the central thing is writing. The art itself. Putting my intelligence and my humanity to the best possible use, and I get beter because I am doing it. The writing teaches me that I can´t just reach some little plateau and say that´s it, this is the place. It is always a search."

Colocar minha inteligência e minha humanidade a favor do melhor uso possível, e eu me sinto melhor porque estou fazendo isso.

Obs 2 - Eu amo, amo, amo a Oprah. Nada a dizer além disso.

Toni Morrison (1931 - )

"Then Pecola asked a question that had never entered my mind, 'How do you do that? I mean, how do you get somebody to love you?' But Frieda was asleep. And I didn´t know."
